Why Hire a WordPress Developer?
So, you’ve finally decided to take the leap and put yourself and your expertise out there on the web to share with the entire world. Congratulations! That’s a huge step, and it can be a scary one.
Once you’ve decided to go with a self-hosted wordpress.org website, which in my opinion is the best decision you can make (more on that later), you will soon find out – if you haven’t already – that there is a whole slew of things to learn about and implement in WordPress.
Themes, plugins, and widgets – oh my!
Not to mention backups, security, updates, SEO (short for search engine optimization), social media integration… the list goes on and on.
If you haven’t gotten around to publishing your website because you fell down the rabbit hole of looking at thousands of themes trying to pick the best one, or because you were googling the difference between a plugin and a widget, or because you were trying to figure out how to let your visitors share your site on social media… no one would fault you.
WordPress is awesome, but it has a bit of a steep learning curve.
Can you build your own WordPress website? Absolutely.
Should you build your own WordPress website? The answer really depends on your interests and values.
Ask yourself a few simple questions.
- Do you love spending time in front of the computer Googling and YouTubing new technology skills?
- Do you have the time and energy to do that? Or are you wanting to get your site up and running quickly and efficiently?
- Are you willing to spend time maintaining your website in the future – updating your themes and plugins, backing up your site every time you edit it, restoring your site after a hack (which is unfortunately more common than you might think)?
If you answered no to any of the above questions, it would make a lot of sense for you to hire a WordPress developer.
Life is too short to spend it doing things that make you miserable, and if any miserable thoughts popped into your head from the above questions, you need a developer to help you with your website.
Your time counts. Spend it wisely.
But hiring a WordPress developer is too expensive! I can save money if I do it myself.
This is probably the most common objection to hiring a developer. It all comes down to how you want to spend your time. Time is money, and your time counts. Spend it wisely.
Spend your time and energy focusing on the things that matter to you and your business.
You can’t go out and change the world if you’re too busy trying to figure out how make your profile picture circular. You may think that’s a silly example, but in all seriousness, you can spend A LOT of time watching YouTube videos figuring out how to do things like that, that are quick and simple to someone with WordPress experience.
Let someone else take care of all that for you, while you focus on growing your business, engaging with your audience, and ultimately making more money.
