Get to Know Me and My Process

Hi!  My name is Rachel Kamath and this is the very first blog post as a WordPress Specialist.  I’m super excited about my new endeavor and want to thank you for checking out my site and taking your time to read this.

I thought I would kick off the blog with a little introductory post about me and what you can expect when you hire me to build you a beautiful new website with WordPress.

First, a little about myself and how I got here.  I was born and raised in Minnesota, and went to college here as well.  I majored in Spanish and K-12 Education.  I always loved the Spanish language, ever since my older sister came home from middle school and started teaching it to me.  However, I knew my heart was in teaching English to immigrant students, so I continued on to get my Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Columbia University in New York City.  I began my teaching career at a middle school in Brooklyn, New York, and went on to teach high school in a suburb of Los Angeles and then elementary school in rural Minnesota.   I’ve taught every grade from 1st through 12th at some point in my career.

Now I stay home with my two young boys, who are currently one and two years old and am committed to delivering high-quality, attention-grabbing websites for people who want to make a difference in the world.  I feel really passionately about this because I have spent all of my working life helping others learn a new language in a new country, and I want to keep striving to make the world a better place.

What can you expect if we work together?

My process is pretty simple, and I make sure it’s as pleasant and seamless for my clients as possible.

When a potential new client contacts me, I will send them my client intake form, which is a detailed questionnaire outlining the scope of the project.  (If you’re interested, you can find my client intake form here).  After going through the intake form, I will most likely follow up with some questions via e-mail.

Once I have all the information I need, I will write up a proposal/contract and send it to the potential client via e-mail.  The proposal details the scope of my work, outlining exactly what is and isn’t included, along with the total price of the project.  The contract is a much shorter document that includes some of the nitty-gritty terms of our agreement, such as who owns the finished work (by the way, this is almost always the client) and whether or not I may include this website in my online portfolio.

If the proposal and contract are acceptable, the potential client becomes a new client by electronically signing the document and usually putting down a deposit.  This is where the fun really begins!

I will start building the website right away.  Some clients send me Photoshop PSD files that show exactly what they want their website to look like.  These are usually created by web designers.  (If you are interested in having a professional web designer design your site for you, contact me for some great recommendations!)  Other clients don’t have a clear-cut idea of what they want their website to look like.  In that case, we work from a pre-made layout that is customized to the client’s needs.  Either way, the client ends up with a beautiful, shiny new website that will wow everyone who visits.

During the entire process, the client has access to a password-protected staging site, which they can access to get a sneak peek of their site before it’s live.  This is great because I can get feedback as I go, avoiding huge last-minute changes which can cause everyone lots of stress, and the client can see the progress that I’m making.

Once the client has approved the new website, it’s ready to go live!  I use WP Engine as the host for my own website, and I recommend them for WordPress websites of all shapes and sizes.  I help my client create their own WP Engine account, transfer the site over to that account, make sure their domain name is ready to go, and voila!  It’s up and ready for the world to see!

Working with me doesn’t end there.  I also include a one-hour Zoom videoconference meeting so that I can show you how you can add posts and edit your site yourself, if needed.  You may choose to have me maintain your website, where I will keep everything updated for you so that you don’t have to think about the technical side of your new site, or you may decide to do the maintenance yourself.

Why work with me?

You will have a professional who knows the ins and outs of WordPress, which admittedly can be challenging to inexperienced users.  You will save lots of time and energy, which can be used to focus on what’s important to you.

I know the difference between it’s and its, and I always deliver a product that’s even better than what it originally was.  I pride myself in the details.  You won’t ever have to worry about any spelling or grammar on your site.

I will be there for you to personally answer all your questions along the way.  You will have as much control over your new website as you desire, and you will feel confident and comfortable in being able to make changes to it if you wish.

That’s it for now!  I hope you enjoyed reading about me and my process.

If you’re thinking about creating a new WordPress website, please contact me below or fill out my client intake form.

I’m looking forward to helping you change the world, one website at a time!
